If you have told them to formally close the account and everything is settled, no further information should be being added to the account. it will stay on your file for six years (Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, seems to be the time they can retain the info on your file for).

I would certainly challenge the Data Controller of the firm concerned as to why they are continuing to process data on a closed account.
